Child Survivors of Sexual Abuse/Human Trafficking (3-10)
Having a child you love suffer sexual abuse or other victimization is traumatic. But at the Joseph J. Peters Institute, we want you to know that there is life beyond the trauma. Healing is possible – for your child and your family. At the Institute, we engage the individual and the family in a relational process to build understanding and trust, explain treatment methods and work together with families to heal.
For this vulnerable population, we provide Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT) Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidence-based treatment specifically developed for children and adolescents suffering from the effects of trauma. It builds on the strengths of the child and caregiver through counseling and learning, among other interventions, to reduce the symptoms related to trauma. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) recognize this treatment for its efficacy. a Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) recognized evidence-based treatment, to help childrenand their families who suffer trauma due to sexual violence and other traumas heal quickly and effectively. By working closely with the child and the non-offending caregiver, the child and family can heal. Psychiatric care is available as needed.
Our Institute is the first program in Philadelphia to provide TF-CBT to children and families who were exposed to sexually traumatic events and other traumatic experiences.
The Joseph J. Peters Institute offers reunification services to families where there has been sexual abuse between children living in the home as siblings.
